Video Downloader — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 September 2026
Video Downloader is a browser extension that detects and downloads video and images from web pages you visit. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data. In short: the extension runs on your device, and its developer does not collect, store, or sell your browsing data.
What the extension accesses
- Page and network content — to find downloadable media, the extension inspects the pages you open and the media requests they make (for example
.mp4files and HLS/DASH manifests). This happens locally, in your browser, only to build the list of downloadable items. It is not sent anywhere. - Downloads — when you choose to download, the file is fetched directly from the website hosting it and saved to your device using the browser’s download feature. It does not pass through any server operated by the developer.
- Local settings — your preferences (filename template, download folder, default quality, etc.) and a per-day download counter are stored locally on your device via the browser’s extension storage. They are not transmitted.
Data the developer collects
None. The extension contains no analytics, tracking, or telemetry. Your browsing history, the pages you visit, and the files you download are never sent to the developer or any third party by this extension.
Payments (Pro upgrade)
The optional Pro upgrade is handled by ExtensionPay, which processes payments through Stripe. If you choose to upgrade, your email address and payment details are collected and processed by ExtensionPay and Stripe under their own privacy policies — not by this extension. The developer receives only your subscription status (whether you have paid), never your card details. If you do not upgrade, no payment data is involved at all.

Permissions
The extension requests only the permissions it needs to do its job:
- Access to websites you visit — to detect downloadable media on the current page.
- Web requests — to notice media (manifests, segments, files) as the page loads them.
- Downloads — to save files and open or reveal them afterwards.
- Storage — to keep your settings and the daily counter on your device.
- Notifications — to tell you when a download finishes or fails.
- Tabs / context menus — to scope detection to the active tab and offer right-click download.
Children
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above will change. Material changes will be reflected in the extension’s store listing.
